N.C. State RB Matt Dayes will miss rest of the season with foot surgery

N.C. State running back Matt Dayes will miss the rest of the season after suffering a foot injury during last week’s loss against Clemson.

Dayes will have surgery on Friday, according to a release by the school.

"I'm disappointed for Matt because he was having a really good year," coach Dave Doeren said in the statement. "But in football, you've got to have a 'next man up' mentality, and I'm confident that his teammates will be ready to take on bigger roles and be successful."

Dayes, who assumed the starting role after Shadrach Thornton was dismissed earlier in the year, is averaging 108.1 yards per game and leas the ACC with 12 touchdowns.

N.C. State;s offense has been pretty even this year with 1,655 yards passing and 1,615 yards rushing.

Freshman Reggie Gallaspy, who is fourth on the team in rushing, will see increased carries as will sophomore Dakwa Nichols.
